GOOD LUCK IS REAL

I haven’t had a job all winter.  It was fun at first; catching up on LOST, building cardboard box mansions for my cats, drinking wine and smoking weed on my roof while throwing snowballs at passing cars definitely beats “slaving away in an office.”

After awhile though, boredom sets in.  Like the welfare kind of bored where all I want to do is join a gang and commit crimes instead of going to church.
It’s the kind of boredom that can lead a guy down a superstitious path. It’s the kind that leads straight to the beer store and McCarren park instead of applying for jobs. So there I was, sipping a takeout malt liquor in the grass with my good friend, Lexi. I was just sitting around, scoping out the majorly-hot hipsterz in the park, when I had the strangest impulse to look down in front of me. I started digging through the grass and there in the ground was a perfect set of two genuine four-leaf clovers. It figures that there would be a bunch of mutant-ass toxic clovers in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but I figured they might still count as lucky. Since I’m like 42% Irish I decided that I should take them, and put them between some pages in a book and went back to drinking my beer. Lexi got really jealous and spent the rest of the afternoon yelling at me and trying to find some more clovers, but she didn’t find shit.

THIS IS WHERE THE CRAZY SHIT HAPPENS. Later that day, I was just hanging out planning a stupid art show in an empty apartment in my building when something fucking unbelievable happened.

I got a fucking text message offering me a job at my favorite coffee shop. I took it, and now I totally work there which is a big step over unemployment. That was the first clover.

Then something even cooler happened. Ed Zipco, one of my favorite photographers in the entire world, sent me an email asking if I would be interested in working for his magazine, which also happens to be my favorite publication in all of Brooklyn! Now I help out with Ed’s baby, CHIEF MAGAZINE, which is seriously on the fucking upswing this summer and has some major surprises coming and I couldn’t be happier about it.

So here I am, blogging on my blog about how I got a job blogging. I’ll probably cross-post and trackback on both blogs and get meta as shit and that’s a wonderful thing. That’s it for my good luck though, looks like it’s all hard work and sacrifice from here on out.
