Last night, surrounded by drums, pedals, blinking lights, glowing boxes, microphones and cables, Quinn Walker launched his new album Lion Land at Glasslands in Williamsburg. He also was accompanied by his girlfriend, Maia and then followed by his other band, Suckers. During his one-song show, Walker multi-tasked by using his drum stick to both beat the single drum next to him and stroke his guitar in a strange yet pleasing melodic pulse of crazy beats. He stomped in perfect time on a tambourine to the song “Plenty of Water for Mud,” which he preformed with Maia. The couple sang with a country twang reminiscent of classic lover duos like Johnny Cash and June Carter and for the first in a long time, only his long brown beard – no makeup or mask, covered Walker’s face.
After the song, which is on his new double disc album, he was joined by Suckers who rocked the joint with a trumpet, keyboards, more drums, three guitars and vocals coming from all four members intermittently. Suckers, like Walker, blasted sounds with a surprising complexity in a scene where so much is repeated. Walker’s fans obviously thought so to as Glasslands was packed to capacity before the Suckers finished on a Tuesday night. While it would have been nice to hear more of Walker’s new album the line-up was good and the crowed was pleased. Cameron Hull, Barghest, and Durty Nanas also played.

nicely written. it sounds amazing.
must have been brilliant seeing him lay down such a barrage in front of a packed glasslands, on a tuesday no less.
I love the photos! The top one is so pretty. Congrats!
The photos look great, like the show took place inside of a rainbow.
having never heard these bands i read this review and then went to their myspace profile to hear their musick . your description of his stroking style is apt . I enjoyed his lyrics quite a bit and also like the pictures you took .. a great review !
